Under the direction of U-Rock Music School teachers and owners, Cathy Hallessey and Brian Brodersen – a talented musical couple in their own right – the students have the opportunity to develop their musical abilities. Over the years, Cathy and Brian have always found a way to give back to the community and provide musical leadership to our youth in Stittsville.

U-Rock has proven to be a hit in our community and beyond, recently being recognized as Ottawa’s Best Music School for 2021. The school holds open mikes and concerts throughout the year, giving children the opportunity to perform in public and showcase their names and talents – a primary focus for Cathy and Brian.

The past year has shown how quickly the school has had to adapt. Going from live performances for fans to a virtual environment didn’t slow down the lessons or the performances. The studio has been adapted to a COVID-free teaching and recording area, with plastic hanging between each sound module and complete health rules checked. I’m sure it will be one of the most memorable years for Cathy and Brian with everything needed to ensure the safety of their students, singing and playing their instruments.

The U-Rock school year is coming to an end and it’s time for Cathy and Brian to pass on their congratulations to students to “adapt” to their online music lessons with flying colors.

Cathy told Stittsville Central: “This year we were delighted to honor four of our students with awards of excellence over 5 years. Recipients included Ethan Peacock (guitar / drums / vocals), James hoek (drums), Tyler edmond (electric guitar), and Jack bayley (voice). Congratulations to all! “

The finale of our 18th annual summer concert aired on YouTube on Saturday, June 12., and was a fantastic example of how music calms the pandemic soul for musicians of all ages and abilities ”, Cathy added. If you missed the virtual show, you can watch the talented students of U-Rock here.

The school has opening of registrations for its 6 weeks of sunny summer courses which will start on July 6, with their Fall and winter 2021-22 courses. For more information and to register (classes fill up) visit www.u-rockschool.com.

We can’t wait to see what U-Rock School of Music has planned as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. to share their talents as a professional teacher with young people and to bring music to Stittsville. Stittsville Central wishes U-Rock and the students the best for another year of music!
