The Ted Herbert School of Music is delighted to announce that it has appointed Jeffrey Samataro as its new Director of Music Engagement. Samataro has been on the faculty at Ted Herbert Music School as a drum instructor since 2011 and says “I’ve been coming to Ted Herbert School of Music since I was 11 years old. This school has played a huge role in my life. I am absolutely thrilled to be able to give back and work to create exciting new opportunities for our students and make the Ted Herbert School of Music an even bigger part of the Southern NH community.
Growing up, Jeff played with many local bands, studied drums and piano privately with many different instructors, and was an active member of his high school music program. He was an all-round musician in classical and jazz music and received the Arthur J. Mirabile Scholarship to study music at the college level.
Jeff attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in music performance with a minor in psychology. Jeff has studied with many world famous drummers including Steve Michaud, Dave Dicenso, Dave Elitch, Ralph Peterson Jr and Terri Lyne Carrington.
After graduating in 2011, Jeff actively pursued teaching while maintaining a vigorous performance schedule. Jeff’s passion for teaching has taken him everywhere, from private studios in southern New Hampshire and Massachusetts to music tutoring programs for underprivileged children in Jamaica. Jeff was band manager at Hampstead Academy in Hampstead, NH for 6 years and was a percussion teacher at Southern, NH University for 7 years. Jeff has judged auditions for NH Jazz All State as well as other festivals and competitions. He worked in the public school system and was a percussion teacher at Windham High School and Souhegan High School for several years.
Jeff performs with The Conniption Fits based in Lebanon, NH. The group was voted “Best Rock Trio” by New Hampshire Magazine and performs more than 120 shows a year. Jeff has played on numerous albums and recordings and has toured extensively.
Currently, Jeff works as the head drum teacher at Ted Herbert Music School and teaches over 50 private students a week. The school is located at 880 Page St in Manchester.
Robert Dionne, administrator of the Ted Herbert School of Music said “When the opportunity presented itself to see Jeff play a bigger role in the growth of the school, we jumped at the chance knowing he would be a major asset to the team. Jeff also appreciates the extensive 60-year history of the Ted Herbert School of Music and its impact on the community. We look forward to continuing to provide music for many years to come.
