Students from the music school, Taaqademy (the music school founded by local band Thermal And A Quarter), are performing live this weekend. After 18 months of online lessons and recitals, the musicians will come together for the first time. Expect to hear pop hits, rock classics and even some of their own compositions.

Bruce Lee Mani, Bangalore-based musician and leader of TAAQ, said: “The concert will last 90 minutes and will feature six student groups, with members ranging in age from college students to working professionals; as well as a few soloists. Since we now have students in 20 countries, some soloists will join us on stage via LiveStream from their hometown! Their friends and family can also watch the entire performance live. an online + offline audience! The music performed is a mix of rock and pop songs from different eras.”

Bruce admits there have been some challenges in conducting online classes over the past year. “Our entire USP was built around unique spaces, jamming, collaboration, etc. And then, in what felt like less than 24 hours, we had to transition to a fully online academy during the first lockdown. It was crazy, hectic and very difficult but I think we managed to find a way,” he says, adding: “The biggest validation was seeing the groups come together, for the first time, this past Saturday. When you consider that these students never met, never played together, studied all of their parts online (some even started studying their instruments for the first time online), it was pretty amazing to see how well it worked (video attached). It’s really validation of our teaching method, I guess – and we can’t wait for these artists to take the stage!
