After performing two plays well above Grade 8 level, she was thrilled to pick up the trophy but “didn’t think” she was going to win.

Kathrine, 17, from the Netherlands, said: “The standards were very high, I thought the others were so good.”

Katherine is now working towards her piano and oboe diplomas having reached Year 8 levels in both while studying Maths, Geography and Chemistry at A level.

Music director Michael Barker of Ripon Grammar School said it was “an incredible achievement”.

He added: “The plays Katherine chose were way above grade 8 level. It shows incredible versatility to play two instruments at such a high level.”
