Music school hosting guitar lessons for veterans

The North Valley Music School has partnered with Veterans Upward Bound and the Kalispell Vet Center to launch a guitar learning course for veterans.

This free group course is offered to eligible participants who are eligible to take courses funded by the Veterans Upward Bound program.

Group music lessons provide a sense of community, a healthy creative outlet, and a way to reintegrate the simple joys of life. Learn to Play classes take place in a safe, accessible and supportive environment where participants are encouraged to learn, play, grow and explore the life-changing power of music.

Kalispell Vet Center Outreach Program Coordinator Adam Jones believes veterans will positively receive the new classes.

“For our veterans, we find that non-traditional therapy such as music is an extremely effective therapeutic tool in improving the daily life and functioning of those exposed to trauma and PTSD,” Jones said. “We offered this course in 2020 and our veterans really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, classes have been cut short due to COVID. We are delighted to be able to offer it again this year.

Classes are offered Wednesdays from January 3, 2022 until March 23, 2022. Classes are held from noon to 1 pm at the North Valley Music School.

This group course is designed for beginner to intermediate musicians. Music books are provided. Instruments are possibly available on request.

Veterans’ Upward Bound is funded by a grant from the US Department of Education and is responsible for providing educational and support services to veterans. It is the only federal education program specifically created to meet the needs of veterans.
