Hoff-Barthelson School of Music Youth Orchestras win at Music Showcase
Hoff-Barthelson Music School Youth Symphonet and Chamber Orchestra, both conducted by a faculty member Robert Schwartz, recently won multiple awards at the 2022 Music Showcase Festival in Allentown, Pennsylvania, including 1st place awards for both ensembles. Among other awards, the Chamber Orchestra won the overall instrumental award, meaning it was the best performing instrumental group of the day, section-specific awards for the cello section of the Chamber Orchestra and the cello and violin sections of Symphonette, and outstanding soloist awards for Olivia Seidenberg on viola and Ariana Thomas on piano.
“The Music Showcase Festival offers an end-of-year assessment by a panel of external experts focused on building on the skills students have developed through their participation in orchestras,” said the Music Director. Hoff-Barthelson is Westchester’s only community music school with a four-tier youth orchestra pyramid, culminating in a full symphony orchestra for secondary school students at the highest level of technical ability and musical artistry. Students hone their technical skills and musical sensibilities in the Youth Symphonet, Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble with a view to becoming a member of the Festival Orchestra by audition only.
HBMS orchestras are open to all students, whether studying privately at HBMS or elsewhere.
