Hoff-Barthelson School of Music to Host Fall Open Days

Learn about the school’s chamber music, infancy, Suzuki, orchestra and adult programs

Learn more about the Hoff-Barthelson School of Music’s offerings by attending one or more of the school’s fall open houses! Families and those interested in participating are asked to confirm their attendance by visiting the school’s website. www.hbms.org.

Masks, social distancing, adherence to school fall safety guidelines, and RSVP are required for all in-person event attendees.

Open House Chamber Music and Piano Ensembles
Kindergarten to Grade 12 students in strings, winds, brass and piano and their parents are invited to attend an open house chamber music day on Wednesday September 1 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m..

Students will have the opportunity to learn about the school’s new piano ensemble program, participate in chamber music activities and musical games while parents attend an interactive meeting with principals. program Donna Elaine and Tomoko Uchino and Deans Kathy Jones and Christopher Kenniff. All will enjoy the performances of groups of teachers and students. Parents unable to attend in person are encouraged to participate in the meeting and Q&A with program directors and deans through Zoom.

Suzuki Open House and Porch Party
Prospective Suzuki violin students and their parents are invited to visit the school on Saturday 11 September 2021, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for a Suzuki fall simulation session and an open house! Come and learn more about the School’s exciting projects for the Suzuki 2021-2022 program, meet Suzuki teachers, other Suzuki families and help the School start the year!

If conditions permit, this event will be held in person; if conditions require, the event will be moved online.

Early Years Program Open Day
Families wishing to enroll their youngest members in a safe and high quality music education are invited to attend an open house in person on Monday, September 13, 2021, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. in addition to the school’s Dalcroze-based music and movement program and get a taste of the program activities parents and children can look forward to together. Children aged 9 months to 5 years and their adults are invited to participate in a fun music and movement class at 10:30 am, followed by a short question-and-answer session with the teachers.

Open day of the Youth Orchestra program
Join Music Directors Jun Nakabayashi (Festival Orchestra), Robert Schwartz (Young People’s Symphonette, Chamber Orchestra), Joseph Piscitelli (Wind Ensemble), Dean Christopher Kenniff and HBMS Executive Director Ken Cole for a lively online discussion via Zoom on four Multi-level Youth Orchestra Programs on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Hoff-Barthelson is the only community music school in Westchester with a four-tier orchestral pyramid, culminating in a full symphony orchestra for high school students at the highest level of technical ability and musical art. The discussion will include information on the repertoire, educational goals, performance schedules, safety protocols and more! Students registered for private lessons elsewhere are invited to register for these à la carte packages.

Open day for adult programs
Adult learners are invited to join Dean Christopher Kenniff and Associate Dean Kathy Jones on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. (in person or online) for a discussion focused on the new semester, the safety protocols, how to get the most out of school programs, course offerings including Adult Jazz Ensemble, Ring Your Bell Handbell Ensemble, Group Piano Lesson, Scarsdale singers, as well as other adult opportunities.
