EWHS alum offers music tuition scholarships to deserving students

Thanks to the generosity of a 2005 Edmonds-Woodway High School graduate, four EWHS musicians received monetary prizes to be used for private music lessons.

According to EWHS music director Jake Bergevin, former EWHS music student Kyle Humann made a “substantial charitable donation” to the school’s Music Boosters Club, in an effort to provide lessons private tuition to two deserving students.

Students apply and audition for the grant each fall. Two students were selected to receive $1,750 each to be used for private lessons on their respective instruments: freshmen Unathi Machyo (trombone) and Logan MacDowall (saxophone).

Additionally, two students who received honorable mentions received $250 each for private instruction, including freshman Jenna Mills (flute) and junior Rodney Ocfemia (bass).

If you want to hear the EWHS musicians play, you are invited to the school’s fall concert on Tuesday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s great hall, with a suggested donation of $5. Edmonds-Woodway High School is located at 7600 212th St. SW
