Do you have a young beginner musician who might want to take the next step?

A wonderful way to introduce a child who may have an interest in the arts, the event has become part of the community by offering affordable music lessons and giving back to educational organizations.

SPEF Executive Director Stacey Peterson said, “Green Brooms has been a very generous support of SPEF, not only through these fundraisers, but also through donations to support SPEF events. Peterson explains that because SPEF values ​​and helps fund many of SPUSD’s arts programs with Green Brooms working with many South Pas students, this is a natural community partnership. She goes on to say, “SPEF greatly appreciates the generosity of Green Brooms and their mission to increase music awareness in South Pasadena.”

Green Brooms is also pleased to welcome two new instructors to its roster, Sara Ballance and Candace Cole, two well-accomplished professional musicians in their own right.

About the instructors

Sara ballance

Sara graduated in Violin Performance and Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music. She later pursued a wider interest in the history of music, earning a doctorate. in musicology from UC Santa Barbara in 2017.

A recipient of a 2016-17 Mellon / ACLS Thesis Completion Fellowship, Sara has researched and lectured across the United States and internationally. She continues to write about the history of music education and the lives of female musicians over the centuries.

Candace Cole

Candace graduated from Berklee College of Music. As a singer / songwriter, Candace recently wrote the song “Breakin the Rules” co-created with Darien Dorsey. The song was featured on The Marvel TV show CLOAK & DAGGER and aired during the show’s first season.

Prior to that, she wrote for the soundtrack of the award-winning FOX SEARCHLIGHT film, STEP. His song HIGHER was produced by Rapheal Saadiq and Darien Dorsey and co-written with Oscar nominated songwriter Taura Stinson.

She is the lead singer of her group CJ LEGACY and performs frequently in the Los Angeles area.

The academy offers a range of courses including voice, drums, guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, viola, cello, banjo songwriting, and music theory.

All ages and experience levels are welcome!
